Making a backyard terrain park?

I made a wood box for my mini terrain park. Do I need to have a HDPE cover on top of it or can I leave it? It's pretty nice wood and painted if that would matter. Any ideas of cool rails, boxes or random things to add?. We live in Minnesota so we've got lots of snow and we've got tools to work with(: Any ideas are appreciated
