Why are there no good sports teams in the D.C./Maryland area?

i am an avid sports fan of d.c./maryland. however, it seems to me that we have no good teams. the redskins are awful, the capitals can't play defense, the wizards won 19 out of 82 games last year, the orioles and nationals are bottomfeeders, and even the ravens are stuck in a tough division at 4-3 with a hard time making the playoffs, though they look to be our best bet. most big cities/areas have at least one real good time. why not the nation's capital and surrounding area?
